“The painter gives concrete expression to his sensations, his perceptions, by means of line and color.”

As a figurative artist, I have an interest in painting from observation. My practise focuses on the principle that good drawing is the basis of good painting and that colour should be used to enhance the organisation and definition of observed space and form.

With a degree in Biochemistry, I am also particularly interested in visual perception: understanding the illusions created in our brain when painting from life, and the resulting issues surrounding their representation in painting. These vagaries of perception are as much my subject as the objects themselves.
