Saskia Berkin is a figurative oil painter working between London and her native town Beverley, East Yorkshire.

Her practise focuses on the principle that good drawing is the basis of good painting and that colour should be used to enhance the organisation and definition of observed space and form.
Having completed a degree in Biochemistry before training as a painter, she is particularly interested in visual perception: understanding the illusions created in our brain when painting from life, and the resulting issues surrounding their representation in painting. These fluctuations and uncertainties of perception are as central to her work as the physical subjects themselves.
